Her triumphant return to Manly in 1993 was made even more memorable by her gallant escort, the Freshwater Class ferry MV Narrabeen — a vessel that, fittingly, made a mighty return to service in 2025 after a full restoration.
The MV Narrabeen first entered service on 5 May 1984 and, at barely 40 years old, had many years left to give. Following strong public opposition to her withdrawal — and a groundswell of community voices demanding common sense — she was proudly restored to Sydney Harbour, proving once again that heritage matters and people power works.
