Manly Harbour Pool and Promenade 1937–38 Historic Reimagined Poster | Lost Manly

Manly Harbour Pool and Promenade 1937–38 Historic Reimagined Poster | Lost Manly

Step back into Manly’s golden seaside era with this vibrant artwork inspired by historic scenes from the iconic Manly Harbour Pool and Promenade.

Build by the PJMSSCo and opened in 1931 beside Manly Wharf, the harbour pool and promenade quickly became one of Manly's, if not Sydney's, most beloved swimming spots. Families gathered along the promenade, swimmers dove from the pontoons, and the sheltered waters of Manly Cove created the lively summer atmosphere that defined coastal life in Manly during the 1930s.

This artwork reimagines that historic moment in the style of classic mid-century travel posters, bringing colour, warmth and nostalgia to one of Manly’s most cherished landmarks.

Part of the Historic Reimagined Series within the Lost Manly Heritage Collection, this piece blends historical inspiration with contemporary illustration to celebrate the places and memories that shaped Manly and the Northern Beaches.

Perfect for coastal homes, beach houses, cafés, offices and gallery walls.

The History
The Manly Harbour Pool and Promenade opened in 1931 beside Manly Wharf and quickly became one of the Northern Beaches’ most popular swimming destinations.

The sheltered harbour waters made it ideal for family swimming, while the promenade created a lively social gathering place throughout the summer months. Diving pontoons, boardwalk seating and views across Manly Cove captured the relaxed rhythm of seaside life during the pre-war decades.

Although the structure was destroyed during the Sygna storm of 1974, the Harbour Pool remains one of Manly’s most remembered coastal landmarks.

Historic photographs like this preserve the memory of a place that shaped the social life of Manly for generations.

Historical Provenance
