Officially opened in 1931, the elegant pavilion, tea rooms and harbour baths quickly became a beloved landmark, attracting generations of swimmers, tourists and day-trippers arriving by ferry across Sydney Harbour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor more than four decades, the pool stood as a symbol of Manly’s golden era of seaside leisure until disaster struck in 1974, when severe storms and the wreck of the cargo ship \u003cem\u003eSygna\u003c\/em\u003e sent huge quantities of timber debris and heavy seas crashing into the structure.
