Manly once had so much to offer adults and children alike. The fun pier, speed boats, promenade, swimming pools, water works, Aquarium, marine land, donkey rides, horse and carriage, slippery slides are all but memories relegated to the history archives. Starting in 1905, Manly held its first VENETIAN CARNIVAL every February that went on for two whole weeks! It had procession bands, confetti battles, side shows, dancing wheels, water pageants, and a host of novelties: a great space for for everyone to get involved, where entertainers and artists could shed their skins and share their wares, with a musical comedy showing nightly at the Palais Theatre. There were ´floating crafts´musical performances, fancy dress and all sorts of fun and revelry. Oh the joy to be had!
